Surf Rescue Run - EVENT POSTPONED
On behalf of Surf Life Saving Queensland, thank you for taking the time to register for our inaugural Surf Rescue Run fundraising event.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control, we’ve had to postpone this event. A new date will be announced as soon as possible and, at this stage, will likely be towards the end of this year.
We apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience this has caused, and we remain committed to delivering an exciting and challenging fun run event for the Gold Coast community.
We’ll be announcing a new date for the Surf Rescue Run as soon as possible and we’d love to see you there. Stay tuned.
Surf Life Saving Queensland
Surf Life Saving Queensland is built on a fundamental principle: to save lives.
As the peak aquatic rescue authority in Queensland and one of the largest volunteer-based community service organisations in Australia, SLSQ aims to set the benchmark in lifesaving service provision, rescue practices, emergency care, training and education.
From humble beginnings when the first recorded rescue on a Queensland beach was made in 1909, SLSQ is now an efficient and vibrant organisation servicing 30,500 members.

Timings on the day
Please arrive at the assembly area at least 30 minutes prior to your event in order to allow plenty of time to register and warm up.

Start line location - All runners in the Surf Rescue Run will start on the beach in front of Broadbeach SLSC.
Finish line location – The Surf Rescue Run finish line will be on the beach in front of Broadbeach SLSC.
10km Run – Will start on the beach in front of Broadbeach SLSC. Runners will head south to just past Mermaid Beach SLSC. Runners will then turn around and head north to Elkhorn Ave for the northern turn around Broadbeach SLSC. Water stations will be located along the course.
5km Run – Will start at Broadbeach SLSC and complete the 5km northern loop of the 10km course.
1km Kids' Dash – All participants in the 1km Kids' Dash will complete a 1km northern loop of the 10km course.

What do you get for entering?
Each entrant will receive their own race kit, including a race number and timing chip, Surf Rescue Run race singlet (to be worn on the day) and goodies from event sponsors.
Awards & Prizes
Presentations and participant prizes will be held at the Event Village at Broadbeach SLSC after the conclusion of all races. Male and female age group category overall winners of the 5km and 10km races will be awarded, along with highest fundraising individual and team. We’ll also have random prize draws from our event partners - and look out for more details coming soon about our “Best Dressed” competition!
Continue the fun of Surf Rescue Run after you cross the finish line and head to the Event Village, where there will be plenty of activities and entertainment on offer for everyone.
Pick up a bite to eat, grab a coffee, and browse the sponsor exhibits then stick around for the award presentations to see if you’re one of the lucky prize winners.

Volunteer on the Day
If you are keen to participate but don’t feel like running or walking, you can still join in the fun and support SLSQ by volunteering to help out during the Surf Rescue Run in a variety of areas, from managing the cloak room, manning a drink station, marshalling participants or helping out at the bag drop area to name just a few!
This is a fantastic way to get involved in this fun event and contribute to raising funds and awareness for our volunteer surf lifesavers.

How do I set up an online fundraising page?

How can I collect my race pack?
All participants can collect their race pack at the following times:
Saturday 14 May: At Broadbeach SLSC between 2.00pm to 5.00pm
Sunday 15 May (Event Day): At Broadbeach SLSC between 6.00am to 7.00a
How do I attach my race number/timing chip?
All participants need use a safety pin to attach their race number to the front of their Surf Rescue Run singlet before arriving at the event (the electronic timing chip is already attached to the back of your race number). You must wear the race number to receive a race time. For safety reasons, anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.
What if I lose my race number?
Please come to the registration tent when you arrive and bring your confirmation email, and we will reissue you a race number.
Where can I park?
Broadbeach has limited on-street public car parking. The car park will be accessible via Australia Ave, heading south along Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach.
Alongside Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club, Pratten Park has public car parks available and can be accessed by Old Burleigh Road.
There are also large parking facilities nearby at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibitor Centre, Jupiters Gold Coast and Broadbeach Shopping Centre.
Be aware there will be some road closures on the day. Please follow instructions from race officials, and if you do chose to park on the street, please obey all parking restrictions as per normal.
Will there be any road closures?
There will be road closures in and around the event site. Broadbeach Blvd (between Amrick Ave and Chelsea Ave) will be closed on Sunday 15 May from 6.00am -12.00pm. Where possible, we suggest that participants carpool to and from the event, as limited public parking is available. Normal road and parking rules apply. Follow directions of police, event staff and course marshals at all times.
Will there be drink stations?
Yes, water stations will be located at both the start and finish areas at Broadbeach SLSC. Water stations will also be located on the course at the following locations:
· Southern turn-around point (2.5km mark) near Mermaid Beach SLSC
· Northern turn-around point (7.5km mark) near Elkhorn Ave, Surfers Paradise
Will there be first aid available?
Yes, there will be first aid on the beach, at the start and finish lines along with roaming first aid officers along the course. If you are unable to continue at any point, you should immediately seek the assistance of a race marshal who will get help for you as soon as possible. Do not continue if you feel unwell.
What should I wear on the day? Can I run barefoot?
All participants in this year’s Surf Rescue Run will receive a special red or yellow race singlet, and we encourage you to wear this on race day! However, any comfortable clothing that you can run or walk in will be fine. Please remember to dress according to the weather, and keep in mind typical beach wear (sun-safe clothing, hat, sunscreen etc.). As this event is held entirely on sand, participants can run barefoot if they choose.
I want to enter, but can’t run 5km! Can I walk?
Yes, we welcome all participants whether you are running or walking!
Can I leave bags or clothing at the start line?
Sure can! A gear tent will be beside the registration tent at Broadbeach SLSC.
Can I enter on the day?
Yes! Simply head to the registration tent located at Broadbeach SLSC from 6.00am to register.
Can I transfer to another event?
Yes! If you need to change categories you are able to do so by contacting Event Management Solutions Australia on (07) 3139 0397 or email@example.com. Please note, no refunds will be given if changing from 10km to 5km events.
If I cannot attend the event can I get a refund?
No, unfortunately this event is non-refundable. Please direct all enquiries to Event Management Solutions Australia on (07) 3139 0397 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Is there a time limit for finishing?
Entrants will have until 10am to complete the course.
Where are the closest toilets to the start line? Will there be toilets out on the course?
Toilets will be available at Broadbeach SLSC. As this run is on the beach there will not be toilets located on course.
If I arrive on the day and have questions where do I go?
An information marquee will be located at Broadbeach SLSC next to the registration area, and our staff will be able to assist with any enquires you have.
Will there be anywhere I can purchase food or drinks?
Yes, a variety of food and drink options will be available on the day located in the Event Village next to Broadbeach SLSC.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, please do not bring dogs due to safety reasons – there will be a large amount of participants within the area and on course.
All runners and walkers should keep left at all times on the course to allow others to pass. Walkers should start in their dedicated zone so runners have the opportunity to run at their pace. Also ensure you allow plenty of room for faster runners to run past!
What time will the warm up start?
Warm up will start at approx. 7:20am. Please arrive at the assembly area at least 30 minutes prior to your event start time in order to allow plenty of time to register and warm up.
How long will it take to walk the course?
Most people tend to walk at a speed of 5km/h, so if you walk the entire course you can expect to take approx. 1 hour for 5km, or 2 hours for 10km.
What time does the event finish?
The run finishes at 10am, but the live entertainment and prize giveaways will continue in the Event Village until 11:30am.
What charity do the proceeds go to?
Surf Rescue Run supports Surf Life Saving Queensland. As a not-for-profit organisation, SLSQ relies heavily on the support of the community to continue its lifesaving services along Queensland’s coastline. Last year alone, our volunteer surf lifesavers rescuedmore that 2,200 people from the surf! It’s simple: by supporting our volunteer surf lifesavers, you directly ensure that Queensland’s beaches are a safer place to swim. Every dollar you raise will go straight back into saving lives and protecting Queensland beachgoers.
